And now, our feature presentation.

I love movies. I really do. Not that you would know it by the list of recent movies I have seen. The last movie I saw in the theater was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which was out just about this time last summer. Yep, its been almost a whole year since I have been to a movie theater.

I have several friends who go to the movies every week, sometimes twice a week. They see every movie that comes out, usually the first weekend it is released. I wish I could say I did that. But I don't. I can not tolerate movie theaters anymore. The parking, the lines, the cost - mostly for the snacks and drinks, the crowds, the employees lack of interest, but mostly it is the other viewers with their inability to realize that there are other people in this world sharing space with them. People have made me stop going to the movie theater. I would much rather wait a few months and watch the movie in the comfort and quiet of my own home, on my schedule, with my comfy couch and big screen TV.

All that being said ... Netflix has been fabulous! We had a minor scare there a few weeks ago when they announced they would be taking away profiles (so that different members of a household could have separate queue's of movies, thus not having to juggle the list so that everyone gets a movie in turn). However, this was quickly remedied by the public crying foul. Thank you to Netflix for keeping this incredible feature :)

Recently I watched Premonition with Sandra Bullock. I really enjoyed the premise, very interesting. Sort of a 'Memento' type vibe going on. I didn't really dig the way it ended but that is not stopping me from liking the movie. Next I have Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle - who i LOVE. I'm looking forward to this one. I'll let you know how it goes. Some others in my queue are:

  • Licence to Wed
  • Definitely, Maybe
  • Dan in Real Life
  • 27 Dresses
  • Pirates of the Caribbean, At World's End
  • Helvetica (a documentary about the font, I know ... I'm a dork)
  • Because I Said So
  • Deja Vu
  • Music and Lyrics
I also enjoy watching TV shows that I never saw when they were on. So I have some of those in my queue as well:
  • Northern Exposure
  • House, M.D. (never started this, so I figured I'd go back to the beginning)
  • Torchwood
  • The Lost Room (more of a mini-series)
So that is what I will be watching over the next few months. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to entertain them!

On with the show ....

Long Time No See Internet ...

Hello everyone! The past few weeks have been a swarm of TV, knitting and PackRat. What is PackRat you might ask? It is a crazy addictive game on Facebook, sort of a trading card game but online. It is ridiculous but so much fun :)

This afternoon I went and got a new nose ring. I've had my nose pierced for 2 months now so it was safe to switch it out. I asked the piercing lady if she would change it out for me. She sort of looked at me a little funny, even though she told me when she pierced it that I could come back and have her change it out for me when it was time. So, I went over and laid down on the table. She took the original one out, it hurt a little bit but not too bad. Then everything changed.

There was a little scar tissue on the inside of my nose right next to the hole and she had a really hard time getting the new ring in. It hurt really bad, worse than getting it pierced in the first place! After what seemed like ages, and several attempts, she finally got the new ring in. I said to her "good thing I didn't try to do it myself huh?" to which she agreed, and was no longer thinking it was silly for me to ask her to change it out for me. Ha!

I got up and left, but all the pain left me really nauseated for quite some time. Very odd. I'm feeling better now though.

I'm ready for Memorial Day on Monday! We are having some people over to swim and cook out. Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't rain ...

I hope everyone has a great holiday, stay safe!!

My Goodness

It's been a while huh? Sorry bout that ...

I've had quite the crazy past 2 weeks. I am not typically an overly busy person. So last week when I had 2 doctor's appointments, a nail appointment, people coming to switch us from dsl/satellite to cable - and of course brought the wrong equipment so they had to come back another day, a whole lot of work because of a big site update, my regular sit & knit and then a vacation day on friday I thought I was doing pretty good since I hadn't had a complete breakdown by the end of it all.

That's what I get for trying to be a busy person.

I was gone all weekend with my friends on a knitting retreat. It was a blast, but not a lot of sleep was had :). Monday morning I had to be at work by 6:45 for said site update. I got there and everything went fine ... until about 10am when I started falling asleep at my desk. I was going to be leaving at noon anyway because of a dentist appointment, so I left early and went home to nap for a bit before getting my teeth cleaned. Then Tuesday was voting day here in Texas, so after work I headed over to vote - which took an hour! There were so many people there ... after that I went out to dinner with the hubby to celebrate his accomplishment of getting A+ certified. I woke up at 2am on Wednesday with the most horrible sore throat ever. So I stayed home from work and rested. Yesterday I got up and went to work ... a little kooky from Sudafed, but alright. THEN IT STARTED SNOWING. Actual snow. Huge flakes. So we left work at 3:30pm.

Now it is Friday and there is still snow on the ground, but the roads don't seem to be too bad. I'm about to head in for hopefully (well not really) a full day of work. On the opposite end of the spectrum, it is supposed to hit almost 70 this weekend. No wonder I've been feeling sick.

I think I've learned my lesson about trying to do too much. I'm going back to my quiet life now.

p.s. 15 days til my birthday!

Hello, My Name Is _________

I do not like it at all when certain words are shortened. The 2 biggies that come to mind are "meds" for medicine or medication and "tat/tats" for tattoo/tattoos. I'm not really sure where my dislike came from for these abbreviations.

I used to REALLY hate it when people called me Deb. However, it wasn't all people. Only when it came from the mouths of people that I had just met that very moment or even near strangers like the teller at the bank.

I will admit that this dislike came from a time when I was working at a place that had several people with variations of the name Deborah. A couple of them preferred to be called Deb and so that translated itself over to me. One of these "Deb" people was a complete bitch and I did not want to be associated with her in the least so I insisted that people call me Debi or Deborah.

I am many years removed from that situation and so it doesn't bother me so much anymore but I prefer that only my friends and/or family refer to me as Deb. It is more of a personal name to me and I don't want just any joe schmo off the street calling me that which is reserved for the people who really know me.

My good friend p|b calls me "Debs" and I love that. It is so appropriate coming from her and it makes me smile when I hear it. My aunt calls me "Debi Doodle" and has since I was a kid so that name has great memories of it. I even have a good friend now calling me that which is awesome. We called my grandfather "Daddybear", so I often greeted him with "Hey DB!" to which he would reply "Hey DD!" (my last name starts with a D as well). For some odd reason it was always sort of said with the tone of Yogi the Bear saying hello to Boo Boo.

My wonderful neighbors across the street always call me "Deborah" which I've never really been called before, even though it is my name. I'm not really sure how that happened, I don't introduce myself that way ... one time I even told them that they could call me Debi if they wanted to but they said that I will always be Deborah to them and so that is what they call me. I love that.

One of my very best friends now is named Debora and the fact that I share a name with such a fabulous person thrills me to no end. Plus its nice to have someone else of my age with the name. There aren't a whole heck of a lot of us out there in our 30's.

Names are a funny thing ... It took me a long time to really LOVE my name. Now I will never change it, it defines who I am in my mind. I'm proud of it and what it means, how my parents discussed and thought about what to name me. It had to be a difficult thing to do. That is a huge responsibility.

Mom, Daddy ... thanks for giving me my name. I appreciate it more than you know. Love, Debi

Cedar Fever

I have Cedar Fever. What is that you ask? It's horrrrrriiiibbbbbbllllleeeeeee allergies! To the Juniper tree here in Texas. I never had allergy problems until about 8 years ago when I moved to Austin from Fort Worth. The Cedar is reallllly bad down there. I thought when I moved back up here it would go away. Yeah, not so much. What does Cedar Fever feel like? Well ... itchy watery eyes, a terribly itchy throat that can't be scratched, large amounts of snot and sneezing like its going out of style. Seriously, I am averaging about 15ish sneezes a day. I'm not usually a multiple sneezer, you know, those people that ALWAYS sneeze 3 times in a row or whatever. That's not typically me. Unless Cedar is involved. I'm pretty much sneezing at least 2 times in a row if not 3 or 4. Lots of fun. And before you even ask, yes. I take allergy medicine. Every day. And no, it doesn't help. I just wanted to share, and let you know that if you are so lucky as to not suffer from Cedar Fever, you should thank the stars every single day.

Take the pledge

For the past several months I have been spending my time knitting, crocheting, beading, taking photos, and in general just being crafty. And I'm in love. I love the care and the time it takes, the people I've met who share this passion, the feeling of accomplishment I now have, and the items I create.

A few days ago, I decided I was going to start selling prints of some of my photos. I am doing this on, a fabulous place for all things handmade. I will also be putting more things I've made in my store as soon as I can get their pictures taken ... So, I encourage you to go to etsy and look around - and I don't just mean at my things. Support the handmade crafts of people who truly love creating. And if something strikes your fancy, buy it.

I Took The Handmade Pledge!

Here is my store:

Monday Again

How is it that the weekends go way to fast? It was a good one though ... Saturday I scanned in a jillion books and CD's into Delicious Library, i L-O-V-E that program! Then I went to knit with my friends at the yarn shop, got a lot done on my sock! One of hubby's friends was passing through town and came to stay with us on Sat evening, we had a good time and went to dinner. He had his puppy dog with him and he was such a cutie! Sunday we kicked back and I knitted some on a bag I'm working on and watched a couple of movies (you, me and dupree & just friends) and we went to the grocery store for a few things.

But now it is Monday and 7:50 am and it is time to get ready for work and I just simply do not want to go. Call it lack of motivation or laziness, I don't care. But I'm just burned out. Completely. I need to take a year off or something and just get back to me. But I don't know how to do that, I've never NOT worked since I became an adult. I'm afraid I wouldn't know how to relax. At least not for the first few weeks. I'm sure I'd figure it out eventually. I'm very concerned about money though, and I don't know how I would do not having a regular income. But ... seriously ... who am I kidding. I'm not going to be able to take a year off. That's a pipe dream at this point.

So, I guess I better go get ready for work now ...

Merry Christmas!

It's about 6:30pm on Christmas Night and it's been a great day! We saw all the family on Sunday and Monday so today was just a quiet day for the 2 of us. We woke up this morning and had some cinnamon rolls and then opened the presents :) We cheated a little and opened one thing each on Saturday. James opened his computer stuff - 2 new video cards and Windows Vista - and I opened my new camera!!! I love it and have already taken a zillion pictures. This morning I opened my new watch!!! So those are the 2 things I asked for and I got exactly what I wanted, I'm so happy! Then to top it all off I got a camera bag, a book about my camera, and 2 games. I also got some gift cards and my Mom's silver collectible spoon collection, which was really special. It's back to work tomorrow, at least for 3 days :)

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a fabulous New Year!

Friend Like Me

Yesterday was my friend Mark's birthday (Happy Birthday 3!!!!), we went to Baylor together and during our senior year there we literally went to see the movie Aladdin in the theater over 15 times. It was some of the best fun I'd ever had! He'd call me up and say "Aladdin at 3:10" to which I'd answer "I'll be outside" and he'd come by and pick me up and we'd go watch it again. Every time it was incredible. So, here is one of our favorite songs for you to enjoy .... take it away Genie!

Just Got Home

From the most fun night I've had in several weeks! My friend Debora and I went to see Duran Duran tonight and it was awesomely incredible! We had such a great time :) The guys were in top form, looked great and sounded fantastic. Our seats were spectacular! We sang and screamed and clapped and danced til we collapsed. I'm now exhausted with not much of a voice left and a killer ringing in my ears but I don't care :) I wished it had gone on for another 2 hours. They are still my favorite band after all these years, and I will continue to see them in concert as long as they keep touring. 4th time and counting .....

Her Name is Rio ...

I just got tickets to go see Duran Duran on December 12!!!!

I was so jealous of my friend Peg who lives in NJ and was able to go see them a few weeks ago. Then this morning I received an email from Ticketmaster saying that the pre-sale of tickets started at 10AM this morning if you had the radio station pre-sale code - which I did! Yay me :)

So I went on and got 2 tickets .. not really sure who will be going with me yet. Probably my friend Lisa, we went together to the last concert in Feb of 06. This will be my 4th time to see them .. pulling them ahead of all other acts I've seen multiple times. I've seen Rod Stewart and George Strait 3 times each - so this breaks the 3 way tie. Heh!

OK enough rambling about the kewlest band ever. Back to work ...

Minor Delay

So sorry for the delay in posting that we got home safely! We did :)

My Mom came and picked us up at the airport on Sunday at around 11ish and drove us home. We were so tired we couldn't even think straight. We arrived at the house around Noon and immediately loved on the kitties a whole bunch. We checked the voice mail (nothing but crap) and Hubby started dumping things out of the suitcases, making piles of laundry on the floor. I ran over to Whataburger to get us some good 'ol American junk food and after we ate we pretty much collapsed. Hubby took a shower and just went to bed. I tried to stay awake but ended up falling asleep on the couch at some point. Then Hubby's Mom called at around 3:30pm and it woke me up.

After that I went and took a shower and went to sleep. At 4pm. And woke up at 1am. Apparently we'd just missed each other cuz Hubby had been up at some point when I was asleep. I stayed up for a couple of hours then went back to bed. We continued on with this pattern for the next day or so - sleeping at odd hours and what not. I'm still a little jacked up since I fell asleep on the couch last night at around 7:30 and went up to bed right at 9pm. And I woke up before the alarm at about 5 this morning. Of course I did have a kitty girl laying on me ... So, I just petted her for about an hour before I finally got up at 6am.

Anyway, this must be the most boring post ever! About my sleeping habits after coming home from vacation. *sigh* I'm headed back to work today (ick), but I'll be glad to see all my friends. I really missed them.

I better go get ready now, have a great day everyone!!!

My first totally completed knitting project!

I just finished these fingerless gloves :) I'm quite proud of them. My friend Amanda weaved in the ends for me (thanks Amanda!) but everything else I finished all by my lonesome.

I am making a headband/ear warmer that matches, and if I'm really ambitious, maybe a scarf after that!

This is what I was afraid of.

When I started a blog the thing I was most afraid of is that there would come a time where I had so many random thoughts in my brain that it becomes overwhelming to try and pick one thing to talk about. I realize this is an irrational thought, like it matters which one of these things in my head I talk about - just talk about something. I really need to get one of those digital voice recorders to speak my thoughts into so that later on when I get to the computer I won't think "uhm ... I know I thought about something to blog on this morning but I can't remember what it is now." So here I go :)

I learned to knit a few months ago. I LOVE it. I like it more than crocheting. I know that I will catch flak from some friends for saying that but they will have to deal! I've finished one sock of my first pair and cast on + done a few rows of the ribbing, however I was thinking about it today and I think I'm going to have to rip it out and start over because I cast on more stitches for the 2nd sock than the first and that will end up making lopsided socks. Which of course we can't have. Here's a picture of this pair ...

Socks - First Pair

After that I started a 2nd pair which are turning out to be really cool. I'm not as far along with that pair yet but the color combo is awesome. I'm also using smaller needles and I like the size of the stitches better. Here is a close up of that one ...

Sock Close Up

I have also started a Doctor Who scarf for hubby! I'll show a picture of that when it gets a little further along. It's going to be really cool looking I think. I believe it will be about 12 feet long or so when it gets done. He's really excited about it. So yay!!!

On another note, I'm watching a very weird show on TLC right now called "Help! I'm a Hoarder" about people who are obsessive pack rats and can't help it. It's a compulsion for them. It's actually pretty sad, I feel bad for these people. One of the ladies is actually an interior designer and she spends her time reorganizing and decluttering other peoples homes and her home is a disaster area. There's another lady who is about to be evicted because her apartment has so much crap in it that is isn't up to fire code. Things to be thankful for. I'm glad I don't have that problem.

And now ... it's peanut butter jelly time! peanut butter jelly time! In other words .... dinner.

20/20 ... first time in 15 years!

I survived and it turned out great :) LASIK is totally awesome. The procedure wasn't very bad at all, and seemed to go by super fast. I didn't really feel anything - especially nothing painful. A little pressure here and there but it was only for a few seconds at a time. Yesterday was a little annoying after getting home. Your eyes feel scratchy, although they say that is normal. And I'll be living with several bottles of different eye drops for the next several weeks - but hey, its a small price to pay to not need glasses anymore.

I highly recommend this to anyone ... and if you are in the DFW area, Dr. Ranelle is the best!

Patience Is Not My Strong Suit

I couldn't wait any longer ...

I just got back from the eye doctor and am scheduled to have LASIK this coming Friday! Hubby is doing so well from his that I went ahead and called to set mine up. I'm really excited :) No more glasses, woooo hoooo!

I'll keep you posted as to how it goes.

I'm Next

Just got home a little bit ago from taking hubby to get IntraLasik on his eyeballs. Everything went really well, it was super fast - only about 25 minutes. He's sleeping now, they told him to for at least 3-4 hours. Apparently the eye heals faster when its closed. Who knew?!

However, now I want to go and have it done. Like now. I don't want to wait. I'm tired of wearing glasses and hate it when they fog up when you go from inside to outside. Sigh. But I do know this, since none of the kitties wear glasses, I'll be the next one in this house to get it done. So there.

Does anyone have Dr. Swanson's number?

I haven't had much to say lately, because I don't feel its right to blog about what's going on at work - and that is what is consuming my brain these days. Hopefully one day I can spill my guts here and talk about what's bothering me, but until then I'd like to just think happy thoughts. And one thing that gives me happy thoughts is going to this website every day and seeing the funny drawings this girl Natalie does. Many times they don't really make sense, except that they are silly. This one was from a week or so ago, and for some reason it made me giggle.

Giving Something Back

Today I'm going to meet some of my crochet friends for a charity crochet day. We will be making squares that will then be put together for blankets and given to those in need. I'm excited to be doing something to help others, and it'll be fun too! Since I've been knitting a lot lately I hope I can jump back into the crocheting without any problems. I'm sure I can :) Plus my friends will be there to help me if I need it, of course that will come at a price. I'm sure I will be called a traitor for crossing over to the "dark side" by learning to knit, but oh well! I'll have to post a picture of the socks I'm knitting, they are really cool looking I think.

Alright, well its time to make like a baby and head out. See ya!

I ordered a new laptop a few days ago and it needs to hurry up and get here! Patience is not my strong suit (hello understatement) and so I'm like those old Mervyn's commercials with the ladies standing outside the door before the store opens on the beginning day of the big sale, drumming their fingers on the glass of the doors chanting "Open. Open. Open." That's me. Except that I am doing it in the form of refreshing the FedEx tracking page for my laptop. Like that will make it arrive any faster. Shut up! I know it will, do not tell me it won't!

Of course it only makes things worse that the Mighty Mouse that I ordered to go along with my new MacBook has already arrived and is sitting there looking oh-so-sad and lonely just waiting for its new partner to arrive. Like it was sent ahead to scope out the new home to make sure it was going to be a loving environment. Well, it will definitely be that. I think I might even arrange a welcome home party for Macky when he arrives :) There will be streamers and balloons and cake and punch! It will be a grand affair, everyone will be talking about it for years to come. And they will all want to go and buy their own new MacBooks so that they can throw parties too. Ahhhh, what a wonderful thought.

Ok, its been about 2 minutes since I last refreshed the FedEx tracking page, so I better go do that now.

Update: The FedEx Gods must've been reading my blog because barely an hour after I posted this the doorbell rang and Macky was here!!!!! So, now I'm not interested in doing anything today other than getting him all set up and ready for his party. I love my Mac.

Mock if you must

I fully realize that my music tastes are more "pop"-y than a lot of my friends. And I'm totally OK with that. Truth be told, I like things that make me feel happy. Music, Movies, TV shows, Books, Magazines, Web Sites, etc. I don't typically like to have to think too much. My brain, in its normal state, thinks too much about unhappy things in the world without help from any external stimuli. I use music/movies/tv/etc to distract my busy brain from unpleasantnesses and give it some focus on things that make me feel good.

I used to say that I liked Top 40 music, but lately I've realized that I'm too old for that anymore. I have a couple of friends who both listen to main Top 40 station here in DFW - 106.1 KISS FM - and they know all the words to all the songs, most of which I've never even heard of the bands! (like these names I just got off their web site that I honestly never heard of before about 2 minutes ago: frankie j, ying yang twins, chamillionaire, panic at the disco) I am more of a MIX 102.9 listener ... or the kewl station Jack FM - where they say they play what they want, but I think really they are crawling around in my head figuring out what I want to hear and then playing that.

My current favorite CD to play on my iPod is Daughtry. Yes, that Daughtry. From American Idol. I know that got a cringe from some of my friends ... they are silently (or not so much) mocking me. And I don't care. It makes me happy, I can sing along to it - and truly, that is one of the big pluses for me with any CD. I LOVE to sing, especially really loud and in the car. I'm one of those people you see driving along shamelessly singing to themselves and loving every single second of it. I've even been known to sit in my car in a parking lot or driveway and finish singing a song before I get out and go inside. Some other bands that I love to sing along with are The Fray, Maroon 5, Collective Soul, Kelly Clarkson, Dave Matthews Band, Hootie & The Blowfish and of course Duran Duran. My next CD will be the new Maroon 5 that came out yesterday. I am quite excited about that one. I've heard a lot of good things about it, I expect to not be disappointed. I'm also thrilled that Kelly Clarkson has a new CD coming out this summer AND I'm planning on going with my friend Susan to see Kelly in concert in September! That is going to be so much fun.

So, you may mock me .. or point and laugh, I really don't care. I like what I like, and I figure I'm old enough now to admit it and be proud. So there.

Superfluous Buns

I woke up this morning replaying this scene from Father of the Bride with Steve Martin in my head ....

George: I'll tell you what I'm doing. I want to buy eight hot dogs and eight hot dog buns to go with them. But no one sells eight hot dog buns. They only sell twelve hot dog buns. So I end up paying for four buns I don't need. So I am removing the superfluous buns. Yeah. And you want to know why? Because some big-shot over at the weiner company got together with some big-shot over at the bun company and decided to rip off the American public. Because they think the American public is a bunch of trusting nit-wits who will pay for everything they don't need rather than make a stink. Well they're not ripping of this nitwit anymore because I'm not paying for one more thing I don't need. George Banks is saying NO!

Stock Boy: Who's George Banks?

George: ME!

Now, I have no idea why this was going through my head right when I woke up. I don't think I was dreaming about it or anything. But a few things have always cracked me up about this speech ... "superfluous buns", the fact that there are big-shots at the weiner company AND the bun company, and how the stock boy is like "who's george banks?" .. hahahahha!

I swear I didn't have any spicy food before I went to sleep last night.

Happy Birthday Gus!

Yesterday was my car's birthday ... yes, I named my car. His name is Gus. After my grandfather who passed away March 22, 2003. His name was also Gus, August Gustav Christian Becker Jr. If that's not a German name, I don't know what is. That's why I named the car after him - he was a German guy, my car is a German car!

My little Gus was 2 years old yesterday, he came home with me on May 13, 2005 and I just love him. I'd wanted a Beetle for a while, and come to find out many people in my family had once owned Beetles, although I'm the only one so far with the new body style. The others were way back in the 50's, 60's and 70's.

Anyhoo ... Happy Birthday Gus, I hope there are many more to come. And, I miss you Daddybear.

Update: 2 days after Gus' birthday he passed a milestone :)

My Brain is Weird

Here's a conversation I just had with a very good friend of mine on IM ....
and if you are a LOST watcher (if you aren't your brain must be broken) there is sort of a spoiler from last nights episode, don't say I didn't warn you.

Her: look at the red dude!
Her: that’s awesome
Me: he's all mad cuz ben shot locke
Her: haha
Me: and killed uncle rico
Her: poor uncle rico
Me: i know
Me: now he'll never make it to state
Her: haha
Her: I'm going to have to watch that again
Her: I was listening to Canned Heat on my way to work out last night...from his little "skit" and just started cracking up
Her: it does make me wanna boogie
Me: boogie oogie oogie?
Her: haha yeah
Me: til you just can't boogie no moare
Me: wow, what was that spelling?
Her: I dont know
Me: i guess i was thinking moar, like boar
Her: haha
Me: i mean it makes sense .... moat like boat
Me: moar like boar
Me: which means we should spell moast like boast
Her: hahaha
Me: (and toast)
Her: lol
Me: and there is also mode and bode
Her: wow
Me: munch and bunch
Me: oh but wait .... i guess technically there is a bore .. so i guess more is acceptable
Me: my brain is weird
Her: YOU are weird.

2007 Birthday Sum-Up

Well, another birthday has come and gone. And this year was a good year. On my actual birthday I slept in as much as I could and was as lazy as possible. I worked on crocheting my cactus (shown below), watched some TV and snoozed on the couch. Then for dinner, hubby and I went with some friends to The Melting Pot for dinner. It was AMAZING. Great food and great company, we laughed and had a fabulous time.

Saturday my Mom came over and we hung out for the afternoon, we had lunch at Chili's and mostly just visited, it was great. Sunday, hubby and I went to the Fort Worth Zoo to spy on the animals and that was a lot of fun. It was a pretty nice day, very cloudy and a little muggy but the rain held off so that was good. We took a lot of pictures (which you can see on my flickr site if you are interested) and had a good time. Then Monday - which I also took as a vacation day - it rained allllllllll day which is just fine with me, I love the rain. We ran a few errands and again I was as lazy as possible.

I'm back at work now, which is alright. And it was a fabulous birthday, so I'm happy and all's right with the world :)

The craziness that is my life

My birthday is tomorrow!!!!! Yay!!!

I wish I could say that this has been a leisurely and pleasant birthday week but that is untrue. Things at work and at home are starting to overwhelm me and this makes me a bit nervous.

Work is crazy, we have a new CEO so everyone is on edge wondering what changes he will make and when they will happen. Plus it is review time and the way reviews are being conducted this year is different than in years past so its sort of like learning how to do them all over again. Not to mention that there's a huge launch of some new stuff on the website next week so getting prepared for that as well as the changing of promotions twice in the next several days which is always pretty involved. I think just about everyone I work with right now feels the same way I do, like we are all running around blindfolded bumping into each other trying to figure out which way to go.

The home situation isn't anything bad, just a little hectic. I'm so beat when I get home from work that I don't have the umph to do what needs to be done. I'm trying to get the taxes done, and need to make some phone calls about that, which as everyone knows is quite stressful. Plus the hubby and I are planning a trip to Germany this fall and neither one of us has a passport at the moment so we've got to get that going. I've had one in the past, its just been expired for a long time but he's never had one before so we had to get his birth certificate and all that jazz. Then there is the figuring out when we will leave and return and where to stay and all that. Which is really exciting but also confusing since I'm not too familiar with places over there. Then there is the fiasco that is the yard. Ugh. It needs some desperate attention but truth be told, although I want a pretty lawn and a nice flower bed ... I despise gardening and yard work. I should just bite the bullet and get a service. Sigh. Another thing to put on the to-do list.

Anyway, I guess I just needed to vent a little. Life's not bad, just a bit kooky at the moment. But that's all OK because tomorrow is my birthday and I've got a 4 day weekend to relax and do nothing but sleep, watch TV, crochet and hang out with my hubby and kitties. Plus my Mom's coming to visit on Saturday so that'll be fun! If I can just remember to breathe between now and then I think it'll all be fine ........

Birthday Countdown!

For those of you who might have never met me, here's some Debi info: I LOVE MY BIRTHDAY!!! It is my favorite day of the year, and I never let anyone forget it. I celebrate at least all week and I also celebrate my half-birthday when it rolls around. Most people think I'm crazy and that after the age of about 14 or so you shouldn't be so excited about your birthday like I am. But who cares what they think!

Last year on my birthday I had a big party with a bunch of friends at my house because I was turning 35 .... this year, at 36 there will be no big party - which is fine - but a few celebrations are already planned. Tuesday I'm having a lunch with several friends from work, we are going to have BBQ at Railhead which is soooooooooooooooo good. Then Friday, my actual birthday, a few friends are joining us for a fondue dinner at The Melting Pot. I've never been but have been wanting to go for a while and so many people say its fabulous so of course, I know it'll be great.

I got my birthday present today from the hubby since we were both off from work and out and about. I got this: LaCie 250GB mini Hard Drive & Hub from the Apple Store to go with my Mac Mini. I'd been wanting one for a while because as much as I love my Mac Mini, I've pretty much used up all the hard drive it came with just with my iTunes library!! So, now with this new external hard drive I can do more graphics and other hoo-ha on the Mac without space issues, yay!

I'll check back in as the big day approaches :)
