Today is Monday, the last day of April ... I don't have anything exciting to report or show. But I thought I would post a few random observances, thoughts, and other stuff so you won't think I've run off to the Bahamas.

• I saw on the way home from work today, in the span of about 3 minutes, two Subaru 4 door El Camino type cars. I know it was two different ones because one was going one direction with a lawn mower in the back and the other one was parked in the post office parking lot. I can honestly say that before today I don't think I've ever seen one of those, much less two of them in 3 minutes.


• Also on the way home today - actually before the Subaru Sightings - I was travelling next to Pig Pen's Truck. You know, Pig Pen from Peanuts? He always had a cloud of dust and dirt that floated around him everywhere he went. Yeah, well this truck had the same thing. A cloud of smoke/smog/pollution that engulfed it as it travelled down the freeway. It was great. Not.


• These kids across the street from our house got and put together a basketball goal. I know that sounds like a normal kid thing to do. But these particular kids drive us both up the freakin' wall all the time! They are *always* outside playing IN THE STREET. I'm all for kids playing outside, but we've got 2 parks within blocks from our house. There is no need for them to play in the middle of the street. They are constantly riding their skateboards and stuff til nearly midnight in the summer. What happened to curfews? Also, when you turn down the street they don't really get out of the way. So, needless to say I'm not thrilled that they have a new street playing activity. Sigh ....

I guess that's about it for now. I have been crocheting, currently I'm working on a handbag (Diane has trained me well, we don't use the "P" word). I think it's going to look cool when it's done. I'm not using a pattern, just sort of making it up as I go along. I'll post pictures as soon as I have something that resembles a shape to show!

How I Met Your Mother is a hilarious show on Monday's on CBS. I wasn't too sure about it when it was first announced, but I have to say that every week I watch it and every week it seems to get funnier. Barney is ... wait for it ... wait for it .... awesome!

This weeks episode was a rerun, which is usually a bummer, but this one featured a HILarious video from "Robin Sparkles" ... Robin's alter ego as she was known by her adoring fans when she was a teenage pop star in Canada in the 90's. As you will notice, the video doesn't look like its from the 90's ... but from the 80's. And as Robin explained to her friends, The 80's didn't come to Canada until 1993.

This video makes me crack up laughing every time I see it, so I had to share. Enjoy!

So, outside of surviving all the severe spring weather around here I've been crocheting my little heart out as you can tell by all my critters posted here.

Here's the next one I finished ... it's an elephant for my friend Gloria. She's having a baby and its for the nursery which will be decorated with elephants :)

A little smiley face with long purple hair ... its about the size of a ping pong ball! This one is for my hairdresser and friend, Taylor. I think she will like it! And, I'm gonna have to make a whole bunch of these with different colors and hair, they are too cute :)

My friend Jeff at work requested a snail ... I thought, cool, that will be cute. Then he informed me he already had a name picked out - Gary. I thought, hmmm that's an unusual name for a snail. Obviously I'd never seen SpongeBob Square Pants before. Jeff brought me the DVD so I could get familiar.

I hope I did Gary justice ... he is quite an unusual snail. Meow.

Another step in our vacation plans has been completed. "Another step?" you say. Yes, I realize I've not discussed this here yet, so sorry! Step 1 was getting our passport stuff submitted, which was completed last week and should arrive to us by early July. Plenty of time before our trip in October. Yesterday I made the first airline reservations, NYC to London! We will be meeting our friends in NYC to fly together over the ocean. There are still several details to work out but I am feeling good about the planning so far - so yay!!!! We're going to London BABY!!!! (in my best Joey voice, from Friends ... I miss that show.)

This evening we had our first big Spring storm of the season. It freaked me out quite a bit. We didn't have too much rain at the house, but we did have hail - I'm going to say it was about the size of a quarter. It looked pretty funny plopping down into the pool :) There was a lot of rain in other areas though. Then the tornado sirens starting going off .... that's when I got scared. The kitty dude ran under the couch and the radar on the TV and Internet was purple right smack dab over the top of the house! The TV was reporting rotation in the clouds and tornado sightings in the area so I grabbed the laptop, phone, a couple of blankets and both kitties (Hubby's working tonight) and set up camp in the 1/2 bathroom downstairs. I kept the TV on so I could hear it and continued to watch radars on several weather sites. After about 15 minutes or so - and with some confirmation from a friend i'd been IM'ing with - I took a chance and came out. The kitties were quite uncomfortable in the close proximity and it was hot in that little room. After we came out and watched the weather on TV they did say there were a few confirmed tornado touchdowns, not reallllllly near to the house but close enough for my taste! I did hear that there was some damage around town and a couple of injuries but I don't think any of them were too serious.

So, we survived the first of several lovely Spring storms for the year that are famous here in North Texas. Yay! At least we got it over with ... and nice timing. Friday the 13th.

I was watching these videos online today of different crochet stitches, and the person doing the videos was really good. Her demonstration was very clear and she went at an appropriate pace explaining as she worked. All you could see was her hands very close up, but you could hear her speaking ...... and this is where it all went wrong. I'm by no means an expert at grammar or the English language in general, I'm sure that I butcher words from time to time, but come on - this is a pretty basic one.

"You're going to continue working that stitch acrossed the entire row."

Really? Seriously? Acrossed .... Acrosst? I'm not sure how to properly spell what she said but whatever, you can pretty much stop after those s's.

The word is ACROSS
Period
The end.

Early this afternoon as I was pulling out of the garage to go see a movie with a friend, and I noticed the most crazy thing. It was snowing. Here, in Texas. In April. They'd been saying on the weather reports that it was possible, but I never thought it was actually going to happen. It hardly snows here in the winter, and less than a week ago it was in the 80's. Now its not like it was a blizzard, or even sticking on the ground or anything ... but it was actual flurries. In April. In Texas. Mother Nature must be on vacation and left the weather duties to her less than responsible nephew Herb.

I read dooce.com every day, and sometimes she has a posting called "How to annoy me" or "How to charm me" and I think that those are just awesome. I don't want to be a copy cat, but I really feel the need to be able to vent when things bug me. So Dooce, if there is any chance in hell that you are actually reading this one day ... please accept my apology for stealing your idea.

Irk:
Traffic. OH. MY. WORD. People. Please, seriously. Every morning a part of my drive to work is down a major freeway, thankfully I only have to go about 5 or 6 miles on the freeway but the vast majority of people who are traveling down this road any given morning must have the combined I.Q. of an amoeba. Then I get the pleasure of going right through the middle of our cities downtown, right by all the court buildings and police station. This makes for quite a few frustrating moments on my commute. Here are a few specific things I can't stand:

1. If someone has their blinker on ... LET THEM OVER.
2. If a lane is 'exit only' - and clearly marked that way for a mile before hand - do NOT wait til the very last second possible to get over and make those of the rest of us who are actually exiting there come to a complete stop while you wait for someone to let you in (This also goes back to #1 on the list).
3. For the love of all that is holy, do not use a merge lane for traffic entering the freeway to zip around a big - albeit slow as a slug - 18 wheeler. This is not cool.
4. The road is not your trash can, nor is it your ash tray. Come on people, lets be grown ups. You are gonna make that poor American Indian man cry again.
   
5. Just because you are driving through an area you aren't familiar with, doesn't mean traffic laws are null and void. It is NOT OK to turn left from the right center lane of a 4 lane-one way street.
6. A yellow light does not mean speed up, it means slow down and stop if you can safely do so. Even if you are late to work or court.
   
7. And because I can not say it enough ... If someone has their blinker on, LET THEM OVER for crying out loud!

Another one down, and I have to say, this one turned out too cute! And it went fast as well, faster than any of the others up to this point. This one is for my friend Tiffany, she wanted a horse, specifically a Palomino, so I did my best to make it look like one :) (Update: She's a hit! And her name is now Tupelo Honey)
